On October 2 and 3, the first edition of the Rehabilitation Research and Innovation Conference 2026 (RRIC) will take place, under the theme “Bridging Science, Technology, and Society in Rehabilitation.” Come be part of this unique space for sharing and collaboration that brings together CIR research, clinical practice, and technology.

Training on Xsens Technology | July 2026
An in-house training session was held on Xsens, a new piece of equipment recently acquired by CIR, which enhances the tools available for research in the field of human motion.
Based on inertial measurement units (IMUs) and miniaturized MEMS inertial sensor technology, the Xsens system enables the three-dimensional capture and analysis of human movement, allowing for a detailed and objective assessment of movement.
The training allowed the team to learn about the main features and capabilities of this new equipment, promoting its integration into the research and assessment projects being developed at CIR.
Boas Práticas na Orientação Doutoral | July 2026
The Center for Rehabilitation Research (CIR) organized an in-house course on the topic “Best Practices in Doctoral Advising,” intended for its researchers involved in advising doctoral students and led by instructors Ana Salgado and Ana Freitas.
The initiative provided a space for reflection and discussion on current challenges in doctoral training, addressing topics such as the roles and responsibilities of advisors, managing expectations, different advising styles, and strategies for managing and resolving conflicts. The course contributed to the sharing of experiences among CIR researchers and to the reinforcement of best practices in advising and supporting students.
CIR Flash Talks Series – 1st Edition
Between March and July 2026, the Center for Rehabilitation Research (CIR) held the first edition of “CIR Flash Talks,” a dynamic and transformative series of events.
Designed to drive innovation, the event’s main objectives were to promote the sharing of ongoing work and strengthen cooperation among the various research groups, as well as to encourage continuous learning among researchers, staff, and affiliated students.
It was, without a doubt, a period of strong synergy and collective growth, reaffirming CIR’s commitment to excellence in rehabilitation!

CEMAH initiated this activity in 2007 and sought to promote the qualification of the hight level of health professionals, stimulating the production and dissemination of knowledge in an international frame of reference. The Center has evolved to the current Research Center CIR.

Pedagogical Innovation Prize CIR Researchers Awarded with the Titles of Researcher 2018 and Pedagogic Innovation by P. Porto.
In the 34th Anniversary of P. Porto, two members of the CIR research team were elected winners by the P. Porto community for two research prizes. Rui Macedo won the Pedagogical Innovation Prize 2018 and Andreia S. P. Sousa the Research Prize 2018.
